As part of the ongoing Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) Action Research Project in Lusaka, our field and project staff recently received vaccinations against cholera, hepatitis B, and typhoid. This initiative is an important part of our public health and safety commitment, ensuring that our team remains protected while working closely in environments where they may come into contact with faecal sludge and sanitation systems.
The vaccination exercise serves as a preventive step to reduce the risk of infection and to make sure every team member can carry out their duties safely and confidently. Working in sanitation often means being on the frontlines of public health and for us, that means prioritizing protection just as much as progress.
Our Public Health Lead, Ms. Karen Mwengwe, shared:
“Our team’s work sometimes places them in areas where there’s a higher risk of exposure. Ensuring they are vaccinated isn’t just a health requirement — it’s a moral responsibility. We owe it to our staff and to the communities we serve to make sure we’re leading by example in health and safety.”
